Quince Tarte Tatin

Quince Tarte Tatin is a delightful twist on the classic French dessert, traditionally made with apples. Quinces lend their unique flavor and fragrance to this elegant tart, perfectly complemented by the caramelized sugar and buttery puff pastry.

Ingredients:

  • 4 quinces, peeled, cored, and quartered
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 375F 190C

In a 9-inch 23cm ovenproof skillet, melt the sugar over medium heat until it caramelizes and turns golden brown

Add the butter to the caramelized sugar and stir until melted and well combined

Arrange the quince quarters in the skillet, cut side down, in a circular pattern, fitting them snugly together

Cook the quinces in the caramel for about 5 minutes, until they begin to soften

Remove the skillet from the heat and carefully place the puff pastry sheet over the quinces, tucking in the edges around the fruit

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy

Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes

Carefully invert the skillet onto a serving plate, allowing the tart to release onto the plate

Serve the quince tarte Tatin warm, accompanied by whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
